HMS Pinafore

HMS Pinafore was first performed at the Opera Comique London on 25th May 1878 and ran for 571 performances.

Words by W. S. Gilbert and music by Arthur Seymour Sullivan, their fourth opera. They were destined to write 10 more up to 1896.

Gilbert who was in a new partnership at time of Sullivan's death said“With Sullivan I never had to do that fatal thing and explain a joke.”
